Moments
Sitting outside in the sun, I find inspiration in what I would like to share this week.
We are nearing the end of Module 2 in the Disrupt Yourself programme and it has been incredibly insightful. We are complex beings. This week we are covering Intuition. Intuition is defined as the ability to understand something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning. Also otherwise known as a gut feeling.
Have our worlds become so noisy that we no longer hear our inner voice? And when we do hear it, do we reason the crap out of it? For many of us, our worlds are so cognitive. We think, think and think again. Leaving us few opportunities to truly listen to our inner voice.
Intuition is not a single way of knowing - it's our ability to hold space for uncertainty and our willingness to trust the many ways we've developed knowledge and insight, including instinct, experience, faith and reason.― Brené Brown
If this inner voice is so powerful and effective, why don’t we listen?
We trust our inner chatter too much
Were afraid to take risks
Nobody else seems to listen to their inner voice
So intuition is a brilliant thing. Not everyone chooses to listen to it. Here are some ways you can tap into yours.
Shhh. Listen
Trust your gut feeling - Research suggests that emotion and intuition have a physical presence in our gut.
Feel - You’ll know your intuition is there because you’ll be able to feel it.
Be ready to let bad feelings go - Negative emotions will cloud intuition.
Be deliberate about the people you hang on to - People who drain you will add to the noise and make it more difficult to hear what your intuition wants you to hear.
Pay attention to what’s going on around you.
Connect with others.
Find time to be silent and still.
Intuition is powerful and can lead to amazing insights, but that doesn’t mean you follow it blindly. Use a balance of common sense and rationality when making decisions.
