Small town living
With added responsibilities I seem to only get to writing this newsletter on the day. Thanks to those that remind me that it adds value. As many of you know we relocated to Montagu from Melkbosstrand about 5 months ago.
I have shared some of the highs of small town living but I don’t think I shared many lows. I met someone that moved here, opened a shop and her wisdom to me was it takes two years to settle. With achievement being the name of the game for me … what 2 years! We also know that our brains crave certainty and especially if you battle with anxiety that is fuel to the flame.
So 5 months later I have figured out how to take care of medical emergencies, where to find all the basics that I need and learned to live without Woolworths except for Tuna Towers that I create each time I have the opportunity. We have swopped out many items for others and introduced things like fresh fish weekly that we didn’t do in Cape Town.
We have learned to frequent more of the local hangouts to be part of the experience. After-all this is our Montagu Story. So what are some of the lows?
I miss my friends a lot
My “riding husband” doesn’t meet me at the gate for weekly cycles
I can’t pop out for a coffee with a Cape Town friend, unless they are visiting
After years in the Table View, Bloubergstrand, Melkbosstrand area, I don’t know where most things are (getting better at it now)
Medical Care doesn’t compare to availability in Cape Town and is 1h away to a Private Hospital - I think people are tougher in the Platteland
Its cold here … very cold oh and very hot in summer
Our internet buffers especially on Sunday nights
Would I exchange the experience? NO! I think we become so accustomed to a way of life with convenience that we forget how little we actual need. Isn’t life about experiences and adventures?
Thinking about leaving the city centre? Let’s grab a virtual coffee and chat about your concerns. It’s a big change to embark on but a quality of life that you will not regret.
