Journaling
How often do you take time out to reflect on the week that was? I have pages all over the place. I just scribble down some notes in an unstructured manner when I have time to stop and reflect. Weekly in our Disrupt Yourself training programme presented by Who Am I foundation, we get asked to do a check-in on the week that was.
When it is my turn to speak I often can’t recollect the week that has passed and more often can check-in on the present moment and how I feel. That’s a start right? We live in such a fast paced world that we often do not Pause and Reflect but rather move onto the next thing really quickly.
Do you have a journaling habit? I like the work of Julia Cameron author of the Artist’s Way.
Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing,
done first thing in the morning. *There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages*–
they are not high art. They are not even “writing.” They are about
anything and everything that crosses your mind– and they are for your eyes
only. Morning Pages provoke, clarify, comfort, cajole, prioritize and
synchronize the day at hand. Do not over-think Morning Pages: just put
three pages of anything on the page...and then do three more pages tomorrow.
Here are some of the benefits of journaling:
Achieve goals. When you use your journal to write down your goals, you can keep better track of your intentions.
Track progress and growth.
Gain self-confidence.
Improve writing and communication skills.
Reduce stress and anxiety.
Find inspiration.
Strengthen memory.
Stream of consciousness.
